Meals and Nutrition

Our kitchen offers residents a variety of ‘home-cooked’ meals, using the finest of ingredients, prepared daily on the premises. Within our kitchen at Flora McDonald, our chef works in consultation with qualified staff to ensure that all of our residents enjoy a variety of nutritionally balanced, delicious meals.

Understanding that food is instrumental in achieving both good health and a high quality of life, we create menus that focus on great taste and variety. We offer a seasonal menu so as to provide new options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning tea, afternoon tea and supper and we regularly cater for theme days which the resident’s thoroughly enjoy.

We offer choices of hot and cold meals and can cater for allergies, intolerances and culturally specific needs.

Pastoral Care

When referring to pastoral care we mean the specific care and building up of the “whole” person in our care, that is, offering every available resource that will assist in the total care of each resident. The Pastoral Care Team at Flora McDonald which consists of three Sisters of St Joseph volunteers, respond to all residents who request Pastoral Care by offering them spiritual resources to assist them according to their faith and religious beliefs.

Flora McDonald’s Pastoral Care Team’s quality of care is marked by their overall sensitivity to and respect for residents, their families and their beliefs. The Pastoral Care Team unfailingly provides care and support to residents and their families when they are most vulnerable especially:

• When a loved one is dying
• At the time of their death
• During their time of bereavement

All staff at Flora McDonald underpin the Pastoral Care Team’s mission by responding to and meeting the needs of residents in our care, in a manner which is based on Christian values of respect, care and concern. Flora McDonald’s on-site chapel provides daily opportunity for prayer and reflection with Mass/Eucharist held regularly.
